I stopped reading any of Friedman's stuff after reading 'The World is Flat' -- what a bunch of drivel. What did you think about 'Hot, Flat, and Crowded'?
I got the book for free at a CIO conference I attended. One of the speakers was referenced in the book, he was talking about how e.g. it costs more for electricity to operate a server over its lifetime than it actually costs to buy (factoring in data centre costs like air conditioning). Anyways I thought Friedman's premise was interesting (the impact of global warming and rising middle class), but he lost me on the rah-rah-USA stuff.
